Part 4: The Mother's Challenge
Weeks passed, and Raka and Kavya's relationship became the talk of every akhara in the country. They trained together every day, encouraged each other through victories and defeats, and dreamed of building a future together.
One evening, Raka gathered the courage to speak with his mother.
"Ma," he said respectfully, "I want to marry Kavya."
His mother looked at both of them for a long moment before smiling.
"I have no objection," she replied. "Kavya is disciplined, humble, and a great wrestler."
Kavya smiled with relief.
But then the legendary wrestler's expression became serious.
"I have only one condition."
The room fell silent.
"What condition, Ma?" Raka asked.
She stood up slowly and looked directly into Kavya's eyes.
"If you truly wish to become part of this family, then first you must prove yourself in the place that means the most to us..."
"The akhara."
Kavya nodded confidently.
"What must I do?"
Raka's mother answered firmly,
"You must defeat me in a traditional wrestling match."
The words stunned everyone.
Raka immediately protested.
"Ma! You don't have to do this."
His mother smiled.
"This isn't about stopping your marriage."
She turned toward Kavya.
"This family has respected wrestling for generations. Anyone who enters it should understand our traditions. I don't want to know only how strong you are—I want to see your courage, your discipline, and your respect inside the akhara."
Kavya folded her hands.
"It would be an honor to wrestle my future mother-in-law."
The challenge spread across the country within hours.
Newspapers called it "The Match of Generations."
Thousands of wrestling fans arrived at the famous mud arena.
The atmosphere was electric.
On one side stood Kavya, nearly seven feet tall, wearing her maroon wrestling singlet. Her powerful shoulders, enormous arms, and determined expression showed she had trained harder than ever before.
On the opposite side stood Raka's mother.
Dressed in her traditional saree, she looked calm and composed. Her silver hair was neatly tied back, but the strength in her broad frame and thick arms reminded everyone why she had once been one of the greatest wrestlers in the country.
The referee called both competitors to the center.
They stood face to face.
Neither woman looked away.
The crowd became completely silent.
Raka stood outside the ring, watching nervously. For the first time in his life, he didn't know whom to support.
The referee raised his hand.
"Both wrestlers... are you ready?"
Kavya nodded confidently.
Raka's mother smiled.
"I've been ready for many years."
The referee's whistle rose toward his lips...
The crowd held its breath.
And just as the whistle was about to signal the beginning of the greatest wrestling match the akhara had ever seen...
To Be Continued...
